How to Find the Correct Floor Tool Size for Your Vacuum Cleaner
If you've ever ordered a replacement floor tool only to find it wobbles loose or won't push onto your hose at all, you're not alone. It's one of the most common issues we hear about at www.vacuumclinic.ie — and it almost always comes down to one thing: tube diameter.
Vacuum floor tools aren't "one size fits all." They're made to fit specific tube diameters, and getting the wrong size means a poor seal, reduced suction, or a tool that simply won't attach. The good news is that once you know your vacuum's tube size, finding the right replacement part is quick and straightforward.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the three most common floor tool sizes — 32mm, 35mm, and 38mm — and which brands typically use each one.
Why Tube Size Matters
Your vacuum's floor tool connects to either the end of the hose or an extension pole/rod. If the internal or external diameter doesn't match, you'll usually see one of these problems:
-The tool won't push on fully, or falls off during use.
-A loose connection lets air in, cutting suction power
Matching the diameter correctly first time saves you the hassle (and cost) of returns and re-orders.
The Three Common Sizes
NOTE: I-Vac, Titan, and Numatic may appear in more than one list below, this will be explained further down the article.
32mm Floor Tool
The 32mm fitting is one of the most widely used sizes across household and commercial vacuums. Brands commonly using a 32mm floor tool include:
Inspire, Jefferson, Numatic, Hoover, I-Vac, Nilfisk, Powersonic, Task, Titan, Tristar, Vax, Victor, and Zanussi.
This size covers a huge range of models, including the full Numatic "named" range (Henry, Hetty, George, Charles, James and more), most Hoover upright and cylinder models, and the majority of Nilfisk's domestic and commercial lines.

35mm Floor Tool
The 35mm fitting is another very common size, particularly among European brands. Brands commonly using a 35mm floor tool include:
Adler, Bosch, Draper, Guild, Siemens, Morphy Richards, I-Vac, Karcher, Krups, Parkside, Philips, Ozito, Russell Hobbs, and Titan.
Extension Rod/Pole:

Tools and accessories (Fits Miele):
Crevice tool EXSTLS95
Litter picker/Stair tool EXSTLS29
Dusting brush EXSTLS96
Flexi crevice tool (630mm long) EXSTLS255
A note on Miele: Miele vacuums also use a 35mm connection, but they require Miele-specific parts or parts made specifically to fit rather than the standard 35mm floor tool and extension pole used by the other brands above. If you have a Miele, make sure you're ordering the Miele-compatible floor tools Standard combi head EXSTLS297, Parquet floor head (hard floors) EXSTLS380, air driven rotary head EXSTLS359 and pole EXSHE166 rather than the generic 35mm versions. Small standard 35mm tools like Crevice, Stair, Litter picker, and dusting brush tools will fit Miele vacuums.
38mm Floor Tool
The 38mm fitting is less common and mainly associated with heavier-duty and wet/dry vacuum ranges. Brands commonly using a 38mm floor tool include:
Numatic and Qualtex.
This size covers Numatic's wet & dry and larger capacity ranges (such as the CV, MV, NV, WV and WVD series), which use a wider tube than the standard Numatic domestic range.
Extension Rod/Pole:
Elbow/bend - EXSHE93
Extension rod - EXSHE92
Floor tools:
High quality floor tool EXSTLS91 (Recommended)
Wheeled rubber wet floor tool 400mm EXSTLS146
Tools and accessories:
Crevice tool NUMNVB60B
Dusting brush EXSTLS130
A Word on Overlapping Brands
You'll notice a few brands appear in more than one list above — for example, I-Vac, Titan, and Numatic. This is because these manufacturers produce multiple ranges or model lines, and not every model within a brand uses the same tube diameter.
If your brand appears under more than one size, don't assume — always check the specific model number listed in the product description before ordering, to make sure it matches your vacuum. This is the single easiest way to avoid ordering the wrong part.
